Think Water Mildura is your supplier of Iplex rural and metric polyethylene pipe.
Polyethylene (PE) pipes have been produced in Australia since the mid 1950’s. Whilst initially in small diameters for industrial and agricultural applications, PE pipes are now available in diameters as large as 2000mm. The first Australian Standard was released in 1962 and Iplex Pipelines commenced production in the early seventies. Usage has grown rapidly with over 40,000 tonnes of PE pipes being produced annually in Australasia. Polyethylene has become one of the most widely used and versatile of all plastic pipe systems.
POLiplex pipes are used for all types of liquids and gases. Common applications are:
- Mine water supply
- Irrigation supply
- Mineral slurry pipelines
- Domestic water supply house service connections
- Vacuum and gravity sewer systems
- Submarine pipelines
- Sewer rising mains
- Trenchless pipelines installed by directional drilling, slip lining and pipe bursting methods
- Process pipe work
- Compressed air services
- Electric and telecommunication cable conduits
- Natural gas transmission and reticulation
POLIplex PE pipes may be joined economically using thermal butt-welding equipment. Diameters of up to DN 110 are more commonly joined using Iplex compression couplings complying with AS/NZS 4129. These fittings provide a system for making joints quickly and easily, which can be undone and reused when altering the system layout. An alternative form of welding PE is the electrofusion system where heating elements are embedded in PE sockets. These sockets form part of a coupling or other fitting and require a controlled electrical input from a welding machine to produce a welded joint.
With so many pumps on the market, there can be a minefield of information available to you. So where do you start when you need to choose a pump for a new rainwater installation or for an existing pump replacement?
Firstly, you’ll need to think about the application, that is, what you are planning to use the pump for and your individual requirements. Do you want to be able to use rainwater for the garden only? Do you have a large garden or a small garden? Do you want to supply rainwater to your toilet and laundry or to the whole of your home? Do you have a large double story home or small townhouse/unit?
Secondly, determine the water source. Is your rainwater tank above or below ground? Is the tank set above or below the level of the home or garden you want to supply? What sort of distance is the tank from the home or garden you want to supply? All of these factors need to be taken into consideration when selecting a pump.
Next you need to determine what features you want and need. Do you need the pump to be able to run on a generator? Would you like a pump that is able to provide a mains water backup in the event that the rainwater tank runs dry or in the event of a power outage? Is the pump situated inside or close to the house? If so, is the noise level of the pump important?
If the pump is being used infrequently, a cost effective pump solution may be all you need. If you’re running the pump for whole of house supply, then energy efficiency and cost savings may be important, and a pump that is able to adjust its speed to meet varying demand might be just what you need.
